Grandma Prisbrey's Bottle Village, also known as Bottle Village, is a unique art environment situated in Simi Valley, California. This fascinating site was the creation of Tressa 'Grandma' Prisbrey, who dedicated two decades from the 1950s to the 1970s to build this village. The village is a testament to Prisbrey's creativity and resourcefulness, as it was constructed using recycled items and discards from the local landfill.
Bottle Village has been recognized for its historical and cultural significance. It has been designated as a historical landmark by the City of Simi Valley, County of Ventura, and State of California, and is listed as California Historical Landmark No. 939. Furthermore, in 1996, Bottle Village was added to the National Register of Historic Places, further cementing its place in history.
Prisbrey's creativity and resourcefulness are evident in the variety of structures she built in Bottle Village. Starting with a wall, she went on to construct 16 buildings and structures using glass and various other materials. Among the unique features of the village are a mosaic sidewalk, the Leaning Tower of Bottle Village, the Dolls Head Shrine, Cleopatra's Bedroom, and the Round House, among others.
While there are few people available to give scheduled tours of Bottle Village, it is still possible to explore this unique site. Personal tours can be challenging to book due to limited availability, but monthly private tours are offered. Interested visitors can book these tours through the official website at www.bottlevillage.com.
