The Gustav Weisskopf Museum Pioniere der Lüfte, located in Leutershausen, Bavaria, is an aviation museum that was established in 1974. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Gustav Weißkopf, a flight pioneer who was born in Leutershausen and later emigrated to the USA. The museum also focuses on the beginnings of powered flight, providing a historical perspective on the evolution of aviation.
The collection of the Gustav Weisskopf Museum Pioniere der Lüfte includes a variety of objects related to Weisskopf's life and work. These items have been collected over a period of 40 years by the FFGW and the city, and include donations from the USA. The collection also includes about 30 historical glass plate negatives, providing a unique glimpse into the past.
Two floors of the Gustav Weisskopf Museum Pioniere der Lüfte are dedicated to the replica of the aircraft, known as 21B. This replica of the aircraft "No. 21", which is said to have completed the first powered flight on August 14, 1901, was built by the FFGW. It was successfully flown on February 18, 1998 in Manching. The museum also displays a replica of the acetylene four-cylinder engine that was designed by Weisskopf himself.
