Hammermøllen in Hellebæk Parish is a historical site that was once a water-powered mill. It was one of seven water mills that, along with the workshops in Bøssemagergade, made up the Kronborg Gun Factory. This historical context provides a unique insight into the industrial history of the area.
The first water mill in Hellebæk was built as a grain mill in 1576, marking the beginning of the area's industrial history. In 1601, weapon production began in the newly established hammer mill in the center of Hellebæk, further cementing its industrial significance. The current mill, which dates from 1765, stands as a testament to this rich history.
In 1995, the entire ground floor of Hammermøllen was converted into a café and exhibition space, providing visitors with a place to relax and learn more about the mill's history. In August 1998, the mill's two water wheels were replaced, ensuring the continued operation of this historical site.
