Our museum is located at the Essex Wildlife Trust Langdon Nature Reserve. The Haven Plotlands Museum is a 1930s bungalow and garden that shows what life was like for resident Plotlanders before the building of Basildon New Town. The houses were originally built as holiday homes by families (mainly from London) who bought individual plots. The Haven Museum, the last reamining house, has been owned by Essex Wildlife Trust since the 1980s. The Museum's aim is to provide people with a glimpse into life on the Plotlands in the 1930s and 1940s and to educate people about their local history.

The Haven Plotlands Museum in Basildon, England, offers visitors a glimpse into the area's unique history. Located in a former plotland cottage, the museum showcases the lifestyle of early 20th-century plotlanders who built makeshift homes on undeveloped land. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved artifacts and informative displays that tell the story of these self-sufficient communities. The museum's small size allows for an intimate experience, though some guests might find the limited space restricting. Volunteer staff are often praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm, enhancing the visitor experience with personal stories and local insights. While the museum may not have high-tech interactive exhibits, its authentic atmosphere and historical significance make it a worthwhile stop for those interested in local history. However, its niche focus might not appeal to all visitors, and some find the opening hours too limited. Overall, the Haven Plotlands Museum provides an educational and nostalgic experience, particularly valued by those with connections to the area's past.
