The Johnston family’s decision to combine their traditional barbers skills with their interest in local railway history has led to one of the most unique and fascinating attractions. Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum, Enniskillen has one of the largest collections of small Irish railway artefacts on display, many kindly donated by former railway employees. Starting at the reconstructed booking office, where the ticket collector invites you to step on board, your journey recreates railway travel through Fermanagh and the border counties until the closure of the lines in 1957, with lovingly created exhibits like the Station Master’s Office, Ladies Waiting Room and Signal Cabin. You’ll find an absorbing range of memorabilia including uniforms, signalling instruments, signs, lamps, tableware, timetables, tickets and photographs from the three local railway companies – The Great Northern Railway (Ireland), The Sligo Leitrim & Northern Counties Railway and The Clogher Valley Railway.

The Headhunters Barber Shop and Railway Museum in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, offers a unique blend of a working barber shop and a railway museum. Visitors appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable owners who are passionate about both hair-cutting and railway history. The museum section houses an impressive collection of railway memorabilia, including old photographs, signage, and model trains, which provides an interesting look into the local railway heritage. Many find the combination of a barber shop and museum quirky and enjoyable. The small size of the museum allows for an intimate and personal experience, though some visitors might find the space a bit cramped. While the exhibits are well-maintained and informative, a few reviewers noted that the collection might be more appealing to train enthusiasts or those with a specific interest in local history. Overall, it's a charming and unconventional attraction that offers a glimpse into both the grooming and transportation history of the area.
This is a fantastic museum of railway memorabilia and will be a mine of information for young and old who have even a slight interest in railways or transport of the last century. The museum covers railways in general but particularly those in Ulster and specialises in Fermanagh, Donegal, Leitrim and Cavan including some of the narrow gauge lines. The Johnston brothers and their staff couldn't be more helpful even if their visitors are not hair clients.
