The Stadsmus is located in two contiguous patrician houses with parts dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. The museum is dedicated to the city of Hasselt and its inhabitants and highlights the historical, ethnological, political and cultural-historical perspective. The visitor also learns about the place that Hasselt had in the county of Loon, the principality of Liège and the current province of Limburg. The collection consists partly of objects from the abbey of Herkenrode. Centrepieces in the museum are the oldest known monstrance in the world and the collective handwriting ‘rederijkerskamer De Roode Roos’ or register Coemans.
