The Kodaira Hirakushi Denchu Art Museum, located in the city of Kodaira in western Tokyo, Japan, is an institution dedicated to the life and work of the renowned Japanese master wood sculptor Hirakushi Denchū. The museum offers a unique insight into the artist's life and his significant contributions to the world of wood sculpture.
The museum not only showcases the works of Hirakushi Denchū but also preserves his last home and studio, where he moved in 1970. This offers visitors a chance to explore the environment in which the artist created his masterpieces. Additionally, the museum features a purpose-built exhibition annex building that houses many of the sculptor's works.
The museum's collection includes many of Denchu's works and studies. One of the notable pieces is a bronze casting of 'Tenshō' (Reincarnation) from 1920, originally made from wood-carving. The statue depicts a wrathful figure with a halo of flames, possibly representing the Buddhist deity Fudô-myôô, expelling a tiny human figure.
