The Historisches Museum Hannover (Historical Museum Hannover) collects and exhibits objects related to the history of the city of Hannover and today's Lower Saxony. The museum is divided into the following departments: "From the Principality to the Kingdom" with the development of the Principality of Calenberg around 1600 until the end of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1866; "From Marktflecken to Messestadt" with developments from the settlement the big city; "Living in the countryside" depicting the rural population from the 17th to the 20th century; and "In Herrenhausen Castle".
