The Hokusai Museum is an art museum situated in Obuse, a town in the Kamitakai district, in the Nagano prefecture of Japan. This museum is dedicated to the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai, who spent a significant period in Obuse towards the end of the Edo period. The museum is a member of the Japanese Ukiyo-e Association.
The Hokusai Museum exhibits and houses approximately 100 pieces, with a focus on about 40 original paintings by the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. These works were created during Hokusai's extended stay in Obuse. The museum also has a collection of about 3,000 books related to ukiyo-e.
The exhibition at the Hokusai Museum includes the ceiling paintings of the Kamimachi and Higashimachi festival floats. These were created by Hokusai in response to the requests of the Koyama and Obuse town associations. The Higashimachi festival float features two ceiling paintings, one depicting a dragon and the other a phoenix, both measuring 125 cm.
