Holbæk Museum is a cultural-historical local museum located in Holbæk Municipality. It is dedicated to preserving and promoting the local, regional, and national cultural heritage of the area. The museum's mission is to contribute to the safeguarding of the cultural heritage through collection, registration, research, preservation, and dissemination.
Holbæk Museum was established in 1910 under the name Folkemuseet for Holbæk and surrounding Herreder. The first exhibition was opened on November 1, 1911 in the Monastery building by Saint Nikolai Church. In 1919, the museum moved to new premises in Søren Mays Gaard. Since then, several buildings have been included and the museum now comprises 13 historical buildings and a pilot boat.
With financial support from private donations and the Nordea Foundation, Holbæk Museum was able to acquire the protected property Bakkekammen 45. This property was built by Marius Pedersen, a leading architect from the Better Building Movement, which took place from approximately 1910 to 1940. The house, which was inhabited by Marius Pedersen and his wife from its construction in 1929 until 2007, is planned to be established as a knowledge center for the documentation and dissemination of Danish architectural development around the first half of the 20th century.
