Holstebro Museum, located in Holstebro, is a cultural-historical museum that holds the responsibility for the cultural-historical and archaeological aspects of Holstebro, Lemvig, and Struer municipalities. This museum is one of the ten supervisory museums that assist the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces with the supervision of protected ancient monuments.
The museum underwent a significant renovation and reopened on October 12, 2019, with new, impressive permanent exhibitions. These exhibitions include 'The Fairytale Loft' and 'Iron Men'. 'The Fairytale Loft' tells the local history from the older Stone Age up to the present, allowing guests to explore the exciting history of West Jutland. 'Iron Men' tells us about the visionary men who started the iron industry in West Jutland; it was risky and dirty, but they were successful.
Holstebro Museum was founded in 1930 with the aim of preserving traces of the past and educating the local population about their history. The museum was recognized by the state in 1965. It was run by the Holstebro Museum Association until 1993, when it became a self-governing institution.
