Huset Aukrust, previously known as Aukrustsenteret, is a museum located in Alvdal, Innlandet. It is dedicated to the works of Kjell Aukrust, a renowned Norwegian artist, and was inaugurated in 1996. The museum showcases a wide range of Aukrust's works, including his drawings, paintings, and his imaginative creations.

Establishment of Huset Aukrust

The establishment of Huset Aukrust was prompted by a generous donation from Kari and Kjell Aukrust in 1988. The couple donated 250 of Kjell's drawings, watercolors, and paintings to his hometown of Alvdal. This significant contribution led to the creation of the Aukrust Center, which was later renamed Huset Aukrust.

Exhibits at Huset Aukrust

Huset Aukrust houses many of Kjell Aukrust's imaginative technical devices, including a model of "Il Tempo Gigante", a car made famous by the successful film Flåklypa Grand Prix. Visitors can also see Aukrust's characters Solan, Ludvig, and Emanuel Desperados, as well as the editorial office of the newspaper Flåklypa Tidende, complete with the desk of sports journalist Melvind Snerken. One of the highlights of the museum is Reodor Felgen's workshop, where visitors have the opportunity to make their own chocolate using a special machine.

New Attractions and Exhibitions at Huset Aukrust

In 2014, Huset Aukrust introduced its newest attraction, "Flåklypatoppen", where visitors have the unique opportunity to become a "Flåklypa astronaut, call-up class 1a, with oak leaves". In addition to its permanent exhibits, Huset Aukrust also hosts temporary art exhibitions, providing visitors with a constantly evolving experience.

The museum showcases Aukrust's colorful illustrations, quirky inventions, and humorous writing, offering visitors an insight into his creative world.

The exhibits are well-organized and provide a comprehensive overview of Aukrust's career, featuring original artwork, manuscripts, and personal items. Many visitors appreciate the nostalgic atmosphere and the opportunity to explore the artist's imagination through his famous characters like Solan and Ludvig.

The museum's architecture, which blends modern design with traditional Norwegian elements, has received praise for its aesthetics and functionality. The building itself is considered an attraction, with its striking exterior and thoughtful interior layout.

While most visitors find the museum engaging and entertaining, some note that a deeper appreciation of the content may require some familiarity with Norwegian culture and Aukrust's work. The museum provides information in both Norwegian and English, but non-Norwegian speakers might miss some of the nuances in Aukrust's humor and cultural references.

The staff is generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the visitor experience with their insights and anecdotes about Aukrust and his creations. The museum also houses a gift shop with a selection of books, prints, and souvenirs related to Aukrust's work.
