Jondaryan Woolshed
Source

The Jondaryan Woolshed, located on Evanslea Road in Jondaryan, Queensland, Australia, is a heritage-listed shearing shed. It was constructed in the years 1859-60, serving as a replacement for a smaller woolshed that previously stood on the same site, which was part of the former Jondaryan pastoral station.

Jondaryan Woolshed as a Tourist Attraction

In 1976, the Jondaryan Woolshed Historical Museum and Park Association was established, and the site was subsequently developed into a tourist attraction. Recognizing its historical and cultural significance, the Woolshed was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

The Jondaryan Homestead Site

The site of the Jondaryan Homestead also remains largely intact, despite the original house being destroyed by fire in 1937. The Homestead site holds its own historical significance and is separately listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.

The Jondaryan Woolshed, located in Jondaryan, Australia, offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the country's rich pastoral history. This heritage-listed site, originally built in 1859, stands as one of the oldest and largest operating woolsheds in the country.

Visitors generally appreciate the well-preserved nature of the woolshed and its surrounding buildings, which effectively transport them back to the 19th century. The museum provides informative displays about wool production, shearing, and the daily life of workers during that era. Many reviewers find the guided tours to be enlightening, with knowledgeable staff sharing interesting historical facts and anecdotes.

The hands-on experiences, such as sheep shearing demonstrations and the opportunity to try traditional activities, are often highlighted as engaging aspects of the visit. Families with children particularly enjoy these interactive elements.

However, some visitors mention that the site can feel a bit rundown in places, and that maintenance could be improved. A few reviewers note that the experience might be less engaging for those not particularly interested in agricultural history.

The on-site café receives mixed reviews, with some praising the country-style meals and others finding the options limited or overpriced.

Overall, the Jondaryan Woolshed is viewed as an educational and historically significant attraction that provides insight into an important aspect of Australian heritage. While it may not appeal to everyone, those interested in history, agriculture, or seeking an authentic outback experience generally find it worthwhile.

We visited on 19/4/2025 thinking after seeing the advertising on Facebook what a great time for the kids. But it was not to be, the que to get in was long and waiting in the hot sun then the reception was not interested in us paying by cash, move on a few metres thought we would get the kids a cart ride with the horses to be told no the line is to long and the horses need a rest so moved onto the face painting and kids animals only to be told we are stopping for lunch it was 11:30 until 13:30 so we decided then to move on to some kind of cold drink or ice cream not much to choose from and the lines were ridiculously long so we went home an absolute waste of money and time would not recommend
