The Karnevalsmuseum Altes Zeughaus is situated in the Gladbach district of Mönchengladbach, at Weiherstraße 2. This building, which dates back to the 18th century, is a significant part of the city's history and architecture. It's a unique destination for those interested in historical buildings and the local culture of Mönchengladbach.
The Karnevalsmuseum Altes Zeughaus is not just a historical building, but also a repository of local culture. Bought and renovated by the association Kleiner Rat – Altes Zeughaus in 1977, it is home to the Gladbacher carnivalists. The museum houses their memorabilia, including over 3000 carnival medals, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's vibrant carnival tradition.
In 1997, the association expanded the Karnevalsmuseum Altes Zeughaus by buying and rebuilding a dilapidated neighboring house. This expansion, inaugurated in 2007, allowed for larger exhibition and event rooms. In addition to carnival memorabilia, the museum also collects and displays items that document the history of Mönchengladbach, making it a valuable resource for those interested in learning more about the city's past.
