The Kystmuseet i Sør-Trøndelag is a museum located in Fillan on the island of Hitra. It is part of the Museums in Sør-Trøndelag, a network of museums that cover various aspects of the region's history and culture.
The Kystmuseet i Sør-Trøndelag has two permanent exhibitions. 'Russerforliset' tells the story of the Russian ship 'Jedinorog' that sank near Sæbuodden, Kvenvær in 1760. 'Folket i Flatvika' provides insight into life on a coastal farm on Hitra in the 1920s. These exhibitions offer a fascinating glimpse into the region's maritime history and rural life in the early 20th century.
In addition to its main location in Fillan, the Kystmuseet i Sør-Trøndelag also has a branch at Sandstad. Here, in the building of the Hitra speedboat terminal, visitors can explore the 'Ægirutstillinga' exhibition. This location also serves as the departure point for viewing tours that take visitors out to sea to visit a modern fish farming facility, offering a firsthand experience of the region's thriving aquaculture industry.
