La Tuor, also known as Die Tuor, is a significant historical site in Samedan, Upper Engadine. This monument-protected tower dates back to the 13th century and has been serving as a cultural center since December 2010. Its rich history and architectural significance make it a notable point of interest for tourists visiting the region.
La Tuor has a diverse history that adds to its appeal for visitors. Originally, it was a four-story residential tower for noble families and also housed the Sur Funtauna Merla court. Over time, it was repurposed as a prison and later as an archive. This varied past provides a fascinating glimpse into the region's history and culture.
In 2009/2010, La Tuor underwent renovations and expansions to make it accessible to the public. The Stiftung / Fundaziun La Tuor, in collaboration with Chesa Planta, has transformed the tower into a multimedia cultural center. The first floor hosts a basic exhibition, while the other floors feature changing exhibitions. This setup allows visitors to engage with a variety of cultural and historical exhibits during their visit.
