Founded in the 11th century by the Norman nobleman William de Warenne and his wife Gundrada, the Priory of St Pancras was the largest monastic establishment of its day. It was demolished at the Dissolution but is still one of the most important heritage sites in Sussex. Walk in the footsteps of medieval monks and imagine how the buildings once looked with the aid of our interpretation panels. A herb garden grows plants that monks would have used for medicinal, culinary and ceremonial purposes. The South Downs frame the site; providing a spectacular setting.
