The First Episcopal Methodist Church of Chester, located at the intersection of 2nd Street and Madison Avenue in Chester, Montana, is a significant historical site. Constructed in 1911, the church stands as a testament to the early settlement and homesteading era in the state. Its vernacular design is typical of rural Montana churches of the period, offering visitors a glimpse into the architectural styles and cultural practices of the time.
In 1970, two years after the Methodist congregation moved to a new building, the old church was transformed into the Liberty County Museum. Today, the museum serves as a repository of local history, preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Liberty County.
The First Episcopal Methodist Church of Chester was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1997. This recognition underscores the church's historical significance and its role in the cultural heritage of Montana.
