The Lousal "Mina de Ciência" Live Science Centre is a modern, interactive space for the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge. It is located in the village of Lousal, in the municipality of Grândola, district of Setúbal, Portugal. The centre focuses on areas such as Geology, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Graphic Computing, making it a part of the National Network of Live Science Centres.
The Lousal "Mina de Ciência" Live Science Centre is housed in a building that was formerly associated with mining activity. The building has been adapted to function as a space for the dissemination of scientific and technological culture, offering various facilities such as exhibition areas, a cybercafé, an auditorium, a shop, recreational spaces, a viewpoint, educational games, and interactive modules.
In addition to its indoor activities, the Lousal "Mina de Ciência" Live Science Centre also organizes field trips, including a "Visit to the Mine". This activity consists of a pedestrian route of intermediate difficulty, with a length of about 0.7 km, over 2 hours. The aim of this trip is to show the geological context of the Lousal area, including the old open-air exploitation. This offers a unique opportunity for visitors to learn about the area's geological history.
