Longleat House and its collection

Longleat House
Source

Longleat House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and one of the most beautiful stately homes open to the public. Substantially completed by 1580 and now home to the 7th Marquess of Bath, Longleat House is set within 900 acres of stunning ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland… a bit different from the run-down priory, 60 acres of land, a rabbit warren and an orchard which was purchased by John Thynne in 1540 for £53.

Longleat House, located in Warminster, England, is a grand Elizabethan country house that offers visitors a rich blend of history, art, and family-friendly activities. The house itself is an architectural marvel, showcasing stunning examples of Elizabethan architecture and exquisite interiors filled with priceless antiques and artworks. Visitors often praise the well-preserved state of the house and the informative guided tours that bring its history to life.

The surrounding estate is equally impressive, featuring extensive landscaped gardens and the famous Longleat Safari Park. The safari park is a major draw for many visitors, offering close encounters with a variety of exotic animals, including lions, tigers, and monkeys. This unique combination of a stately home and wildlife park sets Longleat apart from other historic houses in England.

However, some visitors have noted that the entry fees can be quite steep, especially for families. Additionally, during peak seasons, the attraction can get quite crowded, which may impact the overall experience. Some reviews also mention that certain areas of the house or park may be closed for maintenance or special events, so it's advisable to check in advance.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the majority of visitors find Longleat House and its grounds to be an engaging and memorable experience. The house's rich history, combined with the thrill of the safari park and the beauty of the gardens, provides a diverse range of activities that cater to different interests and age groups. The staff are generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall visit.

In summary, Longleat House offers a unique blend of history and adventure, making it a popular destination for both history enthusiasts and families looking for an exciting day out. While it may be on the pricier side, most visitors feel the experience justifies the cost.
