The Sacred Art Museum of Santos is recognized as the second most important museum of its kind in the State of São Paulo. It features ten thematic spaces, each organized in line with the activities of the old rooms of the Monastery. This layout provides a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
The museum's collection boasts over 600 sacred and religious pieces, with 400 on display. These artifacts, dating back to the 16th century, include images, valuable paintings, and oratories. Most of these pieces are of Brazilian origin, representing the colonial and imperial periods, offering a deep insight into the country's rich cultural and religious history.
In addition to its religious artifacts, the museum also houses a collection of ritualistic masks and non-religious themed canvases by renowned artists. The “Frei Gaspar” Library, part of the museum, is home to more than four thousand titles, including the rare work “Memories for the History of the Captaincy of São Vicente” from 1793. This diverse collection offers a broad perspective on Brazilian culture and history.
