In 2020, the Mathers Museum underwent a significant change. It officially merged with the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, forming the new Indiana University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA). The museum, located at 416 North Indiana Avenue, was closed for renovations following the merger. It is scheduled to reopen in 2023, offering a refreshed and expanded experience for visitors.

Collections at the Museum

The museum boasts a vast collection of over 40,000 ethnographic objects and images from cultures around the globe. It specializes in various areas, including African, Latin American, and Native American cultures, musical instruments, and Indiana History.
