The Memorial da Resistência is a museum located in Mossoró, Brazil. It is dedicated to the theme of Cangaço, a form of banditry in the northeastern part of the country, and the resistance of the city to the gang of Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, also known as Lampião, who attempted to invade the city in 1927. This historical event is a significant part of the city's identity and is well-documented in the museum.
Mossoró holds a unique place in history as the only city in the Northeast of Brazil to have successfully expelled Lampião and his gang without any military assistance. This feat was achieved solely through the efforts of the city's residents, who armed themselves and managed to kill Jararaca, one of the most important members of Lampião's gang. This event is a testament to the city's resilience and forms a significant part of its identity.
