Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park and its collection

Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park
Source

Moira Furnace is an early 19th century blast furnace built to manufacture iron. Unfortunately, the furnace was not a great success and by 1811 it had closed down and been converted into housing for miners. However, because of its failure the furnace survived in its original condition and is one of the most significant historical iron-making sites in the whole of Europe. The Moira Furnace site consists of the furnace building and restored lime kilns, a craft village, the canal (offering barge trips to the public) and 4.3 ha of grounds which include historic woodland.
