MUMAC - Coffee Machine Museum

MuMAC, also known as the Coffee Machine Museum, is a unique exhibition space that is dedicated to the history, technology, design, and culture of the espresso machine. Located in Binasco, in the province of Milan, the museum offers a deep dive into the evolution of this iconic Italian invention. From its inception in the late 19th century to the present day, the espresso machine has undergone significant changes, all of which are documented in the museum's exhibits.

The Museum's Collection

The museum's collection is extensive and includes the Archive, which houses books, documents, and objects related to the history of the espresso machine. Additionally, the Enrico Maltoni collection and the Cimbali collection, which together comprise more than 200 espresso machines for bars, are on permanent display. These collections offer a comprehensive overview of the evolution of the espresso machine, from its earliest models to its most modern iterations.

Historical Periods in the Museum's Tour

The museum's tour is organized into six historical periods, each representing a significant phase in the evolution of the espresso machine. These periods are: "dawn", "rationalist era", "invention of the lever", "Under the flags of design", "International dimension", and "New millennium". Each period showcases unique or rare espresso machine models, many of which were designed by famous Italian designers such as Achille Castiglioni, Ettore Sottsass junior, and Giorgetto Giugiaro.
