The Museo archeologico nazionale concordiese, also known as the national concordiese museum or the concordiese archaeological museum, is an archaeological museum located in Portogruaro, in the metropolitan city of Venice. It houses important artifacts found in the area of Concordia Sagittaria. The museum was inaugurated in 1888, just 22 years after the annexation of Veneto to the Kingdom of Italy, making it one of the oldest state museums in Italy and the first of these founded in Veneto.

The Architecture of the Museum

The two-story museum building was designed by engineer Antonio Bon in the form of an early Christian basilica, in order to recall the ancient buildings of the first settlements of Concordia Sagittaria. The ground floor consists of a large hall divided into three aisles, which is accessed from an atrium, in which various architectural artifacts, funerary stelae, portraits and epigraphic material are displayed, collected and displayed according to antiquarian criteria typical of the end of the 19th century.

The Collection on the First Floor

On the first floor are collected the pre-Roman and Roman artifacts donated by local collectors and those excavated by Dario Bertolini at the end of the 19th century, including some bronze representations. In the additional showcases, various everyday objects are then displayed, such as lamps, glasses and jewelry.

The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts excavated from the nearby ancient Roman city of Julia Concordia. Visitors often appreciate the well-preserved mosaics, funerary monuments, and everyday objects that provide insight into Roman life. The museum's layout is generally considered logical and informative, allowing for a chronological journey through the area's history. Many reviewers mention the impressive collection of Roman tombstones and inscriptions as a highlight. While the museum is praised for its historical significance, some visitors note that it could benefit from more interactive displays or English translations to enhance the experience for international tourists.
