The museum is home to a total of 2,528 artifacts from various Mesoamerican cultures that resided in the municipality. This includes 986 pieces that form part of the collection of Mayan cultural objects that were owned by Prof. Omar Huerta Escalante.
The museum is situated at Benito Juárez street, corner Nicolás Bravo s/n, colonia Centro, in the city of Jonuta, Tabasco, 145 km away from the city of Villahermosa, the state capital. To reach the museum from Villahermosa, visitors can take the federal highway No. 186 Villahermosa - Escárcega, up to km 101 where the turnoff to the city of Jonuta is located, which is reached after 44 km.
The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 18:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 13:00. There is no admission fee.
