Museo Casa Deriu and its collection

Museo Casa Deriu
Source

Casa Deriu is one of the most important historic residences in Bosa and represents a remarkable example of a bourgeois home from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum itinerary leads visitors through elegant rooms furnished with original pieces, decorated floors, paintings and everyday objects that offer insight into the lifestyle of the town’s wealthiest families. The Piano Nobile preserves valuable evidence of the tastes and cultural influences that shaped Bosa, once an important trading centre in the Mediterranean. The third floor houses the Melkiorre Melis Collection, dedicated to the Bosa-born artist (1889–1982), one of the leading figures of 20th-century Sardinian art. A painter, ceramist, graphic artist and decorator, Melis expressed through his works his deep connection with Sardinia, its traditions and the experiences he gained during his years in Libya. The collection includes paintings, ceramics, sketches, posters, photographs and archival documents that testify to the extraordinary versatility of an artist profoundly attached to his homeland.
