The Museo Civico di Albano Laziale, located in the province of Rome, is the primary museum of the city of Albano Laziale. Established in 1975, the museum has been situated in the neoclassical building of Villa Ferrajoli since 1983. This location is in the heart of Albano Laziale, specifically in the Borgo Garibaldi district.
The museum showcases models of the primary volcanic materials discovered on the Alban Hills, including peperino, tuff, pozzolana, and lava. A rare specimen of latiumite is also preserved here. Additionally, the museum exhibits a sample of volcanic rocks that incorporated vegetation, enabling the dating of the last eruption of the Laziale Volcano to approximately 27,000 years ago.
The museum is home to the earliest artifacts indicating human presence in the Alban territory, which date back to the Riss glaciation period (200,000-130,000 years ago). These artifacts include "choppers" and almonds, which are rudimentary lithic tools chiseled by humans. The museum also preserves a molar and two tusks of elephas antiquus, along with other remains of terrestrial and marine fauna.
