The Museo de Geología y Paleontología de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue is situated in the central-east region of the province of Neuquén, Argentina. It is located on the north shore of Lake Los Barreales. This location offers a unique setting for the museum, providing visitors with a scenic backdrop to their exploration of the museum's exhibits.
The museum houses a wide range of exhibits, including dinosaurs, crocodiles, fish, and turtles, as well as plants from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era. The majority of the exhibits, over 90%, are original pieces. This provides visitors with an authentic experience, allowing them to see and learn about these ancient creatures and plants in their original form.
One of the museum's most significant exhibits is the fragmentary remains of the second specimen of Giganotosaurus (MUCPv-95). This dinosaur is estimated to have been 13.2 meters long and weighed 8.2 tons, making it one of the largest terrestrial carnivorous dinosaurs known to have existed. This exhibit provides visitors with a sense of the scale and magnitude of these ancient creatures.
