The Museo dei Bambini di Milano, also known as MUBA (Children's Museum of Milan), is an interactive museum designed specifically for children. Located in the Rotonda della Besana, a historic building in Milan, it offers a range of hands-on exhibits and activities that encourage learning through play.
Visitors generally appreciate the museum's focus on creativity and experiential learning. The exhibits are designed to stimulate children's curiosity and imagination, covering various themes such as science, art, and technology. Many parents note that their kids enjoy the interactive nature of the displays and the opportunity to touch, explore, and experiment.
The museum receives praise for its well-organized layout and the helpful, friendly staff who guide children through the activities. The rotating exhibitions keep the content fresh and engaging for repeat visitors.
However, some visitors mention that the museum is relatively small compared to children's museums in other major cities. This can lead to crowding during peak times, which might affect the overall experience. A few reviews also suggest that some exhibits could benefit from more frequent updates or maintenance.
The age range that seems to benefit most from the museum is typically cited as 3-10 years old, with some activities more suitable for younger children and others for older ones.
While the museum is generally well-received, some visitors feel the admission price is a bit high for the size of the museum and the number of activities available. However, many still find it a worthwhile experience for its educational value and the joy it brings to children.
Overall, the Museo dei Bambini di Milano offers an engaging, educational experience for young visitors, providing a good balance of fun and learning in a child-friendly environment.
They recommend the exhibition "Colore" for children aged two and above. However, I find it hard to imagine any two-year-old sitting through a dull explanation, just waiting for the possibility of touching something eventually. It is not toddler-friendly at all. I would suggest this exhibition for children aged four and above, who can better understand and tolerate long explanations—especially Italians, who are used to such formats. It’s a pity because places like this should be far more accessible for children of all ages.
My two-year-old was intrigued by the colorful tubes at the entrance, but "his assigned group" wasn’t going there. Instead, they were sitting in front of a display discussing how light affects color perception. Naturally, my child did everything he could to go where he wanted, but the guide just kept explaining to the older children.
I asked at the desk if it was possible to explore the space freely, but they said no—he had to stay with his group. While I understand the organizational reasons for this, I think they should clarify upfront that this museum is not designed for toddlers (or even for kids who have hard time to concentrate). This is ironic given that the exhibition seems quite sensory-oriented.
The price is also too high for the experience and time offered. Overall, this was one of the least kid-friendly museums I’ve ever visited.
