The Museu da Borracha, or Rubber Museum, is situated in Rio Branco, the capital city of the Brazilian state of Acre. This museum is a public institution linked to the Elias Mansour Culture and Communication Foundation. It is a significant cultural and historical site that offers insights into the socio-economic history and material culture of Acre.
The Museu da Borracha boasts a diverse collection, primarily composed of donations from individuals and purchases made during the initial years following its establishment. The collection encompasses over 5300 pieces, distributed across various sections. These include paleontology, archaeology, ethnography, and the socio-economic history of Acre, in addition to works of art, manuscripts, photographs, periodicals, and other small sets.
The Museu da Borracha is home to one of the largest newspaper libraries in the Amazon, with newspapers dating from the mid-19th century to the present day. It also preserves the entire music score of the now-defunct Territorial Guard band, which includes significant pieces from Acrean maestros such as Sandoval dos Anjos and Zeca Torres.
