It is situated in the former Foro Boario, a large stone and brick building that was originally used as an animal market and later as a municipal warehouse, at Via Fabio Bocchialini 7 in Langhirano, in the province of Parma.
Inaugurated on May 2, 2004, the museum is divided into eight sections, each dedicated to a different aspect of Parma ham and cold cut production. These sections cover topics such as the history of local agriculture and its relationship with animal husbandry, the various pig breeds raised for cold cut production, the importance of salt in preservation and aging, the work of pork butchers and its historical evolution, and the variety of Parma cold cuts.
