The Museo della Civiltà Solandra is an ethnographic museum situated in Malé, the capital of Val di Sole, in the Province of Trento. The museum was established by the Centro Studi per la Val di Sole, a cultural association founded in 1967, which manages it. The museum was opened to the public in 1979 and expanded in 1983. It is housed in the former Pretura Palace, which once served as a prison.
The Museo della Civiltà Solandra houses approximately 1600 objects, divided into twenty thematic sections. These objects reflect the traditional ways of life and include tools and artifacts used in everyday life. The museum also recreates two typical environments of the Solandra house, providing a glimpse into the past.
The Museo della Civiltà Solandra faithfully reproduces a traditional Solandra kitchen and bedroom, providing a glimpse into the daily life of the past. The kitchen, where most of the day was spent excluding work hours, features a fireplace, wooden benches, and various common objects. The bedroom, or 'stua', includes a high bed, a crib for newborns, and a stove for heating.
