The Museo Nazionale dell'Alto Medioevo (The National Museum of the High Middle Ages, MAME) is a state museum in Rome that is housed in the Palazzo delle Scienze. The museum was inaugurated in 1967 to become an archaeological museum dedicated to the High Middle Ages starting from the post-classical age. It exhibits materials from the 4th to the 9th century, mainly from the area of Rome and central Italy, and consists of 8 rooms. A highlight in the museum is a room decorated in opus sectile, an art technique popularized in the ancient and medieval Roman world where materials were cut and inlaid into walls and floors.
