MUTEC was originally focused on the field of electric power, making it a unique institution in the region. It was also considered the first interactive science museum created in Latin America, which added to its significance and appeal.

Inauguration of the Planetarium

A significant event in the history of MUTEC was the inauguration of its Planetarium on May 29, 2009. This event was attended by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, and the first Mexican astronaut, Rodolfo Neri Vela.

Closure of MUTEC and Plans for MUNET

In September 2015, MUTEC closed its doors to make way for the creation of the Museo Nacional de Energía y Tecnología (MUNET), which was intended to replace it. However, there is currently no clear opening date for MUNET, and there appears to be no progress in the works for its creation.
