The Museu João Fona, located in the city of Santarém in the state of Pará, is a historical building constructed between the years 1853 and 1868 by the engineer Marcos Pereira. This museum is the third oldest building in the city, adding to its historical significance.

Collections at Museu João Fona

The Museu João Fona is home to a wide range of archaeological pieces. These include fossilized fish, cassava beijus, remains of sambaquis, whole and fragmented pieces of ceramics from various phases of the Tapajonic culture, indigenous crafts, and images carved in wood. The museum also houses historical items such as newspapers, books, furniture used in the court of justice and in the old chamber, a collection of old coins, and utensils used in the punishment of slaves.
