The Altes Lager is open to the public daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Visitors can access the site via a foot and bike path that was opened in 2019. This path connects the Altes Lager to the Swabian Alb biosphere area and the former military training area, offering a unique opportunity to explore the region's natural and historical attractions.
Information Center at Altes Lager
The Altes Lager is home to the information center for the Swabian Alb biosphere area, which was opened on October 23, 2010. The center, created by connecting an old guardhouse and a staff building with a steel-glass frame construction, features an exhibition area of around 450 square meters. Here, visitors can learn about biosphere reserves worldwide, the adjacent former Münsingen military training area, local forests, beekeeping, grazing, and city-country relationships in the region.
Museum at Altes Lager
The Traditionsgemeinschaft Truppenübungsplatz Münsingen e. V. has established its museum in the buildings OF 5 and BT 34 at the Altes Lager. The museum provides information about the changing history of the former military training area, from the empire era through the First and Second World Wars, the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, the French occupation, and the Federal Republic of Germany. Visitors can also tour an originally furnished troop accommodation in the former troop accommodation building BT 34.
