Museum Batavialand has 2 ratings.
Batavialand in Lelystad, the Netherlands, offers visitors an informative journey through Dutch maritime history. The museum's centerpiece is the reconstructed 17th-century ship Batavia, which provides a tangible connection to the Netherlands' seafaring past. Many visitors appreciate the opportunity to explore the ship and learn about life aboard during the Dutch Golden Age.
The museum's exhibits cover a range of topics, including shipbuilding techniques, navigation, and the reclamation of land from the sea, which is particularly relevant given Lelystad's location in Flevoland, a province created through extensive land reclamation projects. The interactive displays and hands-on activities are generally well-received, especially by families and school groups.
However, some visitors note that the museum's content can be somewhat limited, and those expecting a more extensive collection might find the experience lacking depth. The outdoor area, which includes the shipyard, is often highlighted as interesting, but its appeal can be weather-dependent.
The staff is generally described as knowledgeable and friendly, contributing positively to the visitor experience. However, a few reviewers mention that more information in languages other than Dutch would be beneficial for international visitors.
While Batavialand provides an educational experience, some visitors feel that the admission price is a bit high for the content offered. The museum shop and café receive mixed reviews, with some finding them overpriced.
Overall, Batavialand offers an engaging look at Dutch maritime history, particularly for those interested in shipbuilding and the Netherlands' relationship with water. While it may not be comprehensive enough for maritime enthusiasts, it provides a solid introduction to the topic for general visitors and can be an enjoyable outing for families.
Tijdens een bezoek aan de Bataviawerf hebben we een rondleiding gehad in het schip van de VOC en op de scheepswerf zelf. Wij hadden een erg enthousiaste vrijwilliger die voor de tour zorgde. Erg de moeite waard!
