Museum In 't Houten Huis is housed in a wooden structured house from the 18th century. The museum illustrates the rich history of the Schermereiland and its seafaring residents. It exhibits a diverse collection on the history of De Rijp and Schermereiland. Topics that are covered in the museum include shipping, whaling, herring fishing, wooden houses, Mennonites and millwright Jan Adriaansz Leeghwater. A special piece in the museum is a kayak from Greenland.
