In 2010, MOCA relocated to a former fire department building on Church Avenue. This move allowed the museum to expand its exhibition space and further develop its programs. The building's unique history adds an additional layer of interest for visitors, as it combines modern art with a piece of Tucson's architectural history.
Since 2009, MOCA has been a dynamic platform for contemporary art, presenting between eight and twelve exhibitions per year. These exhibitions showcase the works of local, regional, national, and international artists, offering visitors a diverse and ever-changing array of contemporary art to explore.
MOCA Tucson runs a competitive artist residency program, which was relaunched in 2017. The program receives several hundred applications each year for just seven slots, with residencies lasting between two weeks and three months. This program provides artists with the opportunity to develop their work in a supportive environment, and offers visitors the chance to engage with contemporary art in a dynamic and interactive way.
