The Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus is a significant historical site in the city of Segeberg. Built in 1541, it is known as the oldest house in the city and is one of the few preserved small-town bourgeois houses in Schleswig-Holstein from the early modern period. This makes it a unique representation of the architectural style and living conditions of that era.
Since its renovation in 1963/64, the Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus has been home to the “Heimatmuseum” of the city of Bad Segeberg. The museum offers a deep dive into the city's history, with new permanent exhibitions being gradually created since the Volkshochschule Bad Segeberg took over the sponsorship in 2012. These exhibitions provide a comprehensive understanding of the historical topics of the city.
