National Museum of Qatar

The National Museum of Qatar, situated in the heart of Doha, is a modern architectural marvel that opened its doors to the public on 28 March 2019. This new structure replaced the previous museum building that had been in operation since 1975. The museum's design, inspired by the desert rose crystal, was conceived by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel.

The museum complex incorporates the palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, a significant symbol of Qatari national identity. This historic palace, restored and preserved, forms the core of the museum and provides a rich insight into the country's heritage.

Tour of the Museum

A visit to the museum offers a journey through a series of galleries that explore three major, interconnected themes. These galleries are arranged in a chronological order, providing a comprehensive narrative of Qatar's natural history, Bedouin culture, tribal wars, the establishment of the Qatari state, and the discovery of oil to the present.

Explorer: The Museum's Online Platform

In 2023, the museum launched an online platform named 'Explorer'. This platform provides access to online collections, an archaeology and heritage map, and an interactive timeline of the museum, allowing visitors to delve deeper into the rich history and culture of Qatar from the comfort of their own homes.
