The National Picture Gallery of Sassari is situated in the heart of the historic center of Sassari, in Piazza Santa Caterina. This location places it between the church of Santa Caterina and the Ducal Palace, making it easily accessible and surrounded by other significant historical sites.
The National Picture Gallery of Sassari boasts a collection of over four hundred works, primarily paintings. These works are organized by themes such as religious, mythological, historical, portrait, still life, and genre scenes. They are arranged chronologically, providing a comprehensive overview of various Italian and European schools and artists from the Middle Ages to the mid-twentieth century.
In March 2022, the National Picture Gallery of Sassari inaugurated a room entirely dedicated to the works of the Sassari painter Edina Altara. This addition provides a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the works of this local artist.
