Nemuro City History and Nature Museum and its collection

The Nemuro City Museum of History and Nature is a museum-like facility located in Nemuro, Hokkaidō, Japan. It was founded by the City of Nemuro in 2004. The museum is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting materials related to both the humanities and natural sciences, providing a comprehensive understanding of the region's history and natural environment.

The Museum's Collection

The museum's collection comprises approximately forty thousand items, including a painting of the ship Ekaterina. This painting dates back to the time when Adam Laxman arrived in Japan on this vessel during his 1792 expedition. This significant piece of history has been designated as a Municipal Tangible Cultural Property.
