The centerpiece of the New Jersey Naval Museum's collection was the USS Ling, a 312-foot long Balao-class submarine that served in World War II. This ex-United States Navy vessel provided a tangible link to the past, allowing visitors to explore a significant piece of naval history.
Before the museum's closure, visitors had the opportunity to take guided tours of the USS Ling. These tours offered an in-depth exploration of the submarine, from bow to stern, including its equipment, living quarters, and weaponry. This immersive experience provided a unique insight into the life and operations of a World War II submarine.
The onshore museum building housed a diverse collection of items, including a United States Navy SEALs delivery vehicle and personal photographs and effects. These artifacts offered visitors a broader understanding of naval history and the personal stories of those who served.
