The Norddeutsches Krippenmuseum, situated in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Güstrow, has been a home to a permanent exhibition of Christmas cribs from all over the world since 2007. This unique collection offers a glimpse into the diverse interpretations of the Christmas story by artists from different cultures. The museum provides an enriching experience for visitors interested in art, culture, and history.
The museum's collection is vast, comprising around 690 cribs from all continents. However, due to space constraints, only about 100 of these are displayed in the permanent exhibition. These cribs are mostly commissioned works, crafted by local artists using materials typical to their region. The diversity in forms, materials, sizes, and designs is not only artistically intriguing but also ethnologically significant.
