The Cividade de Terroso is an archaeological site that offers a glimpse into the Castro culture. Located in the freguesia of Aver-o-Mar, within the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim in the Porto district of Portugal, the site consists of the remains of a fortified hill. This location provides a unique opportunity to explore the remnants of a civilization that once thrived in this region.
Cividade de Terroso, known in the Middle Ages as Montis Teroso, was a significant colony of the Castro culture in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The site was strategically built on top of Cividade hill, less than 5 km from the coast, at the eastern limit of the contemporary city. This location allowed the colony to thrive due to its proximity to the sea and its strong fortifications.
