The Orto Botanico dell'Università dell'Aquila, also known as the Orto Botanico di Collemaggio, is a botanical garden located in L'Aquila, near the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio. Geographical and Administrative Details of the Botanical Garden

The botanical garden is situated at an altitude of approximately 720 meters above sea level and spans an area of about 8 hectares. The garden, which is largely sloping, is managed by the Sector for Environmental Policies and Territorial Development of the Province of L'Aquila. It is recognized as a 'garden of regional interest' under regional law number 35/1997.

Biodiversity in the Botanical Garden

The garden is divided into several sectors, each dedicated to a specific environment. As of 2008, the garden housed 645 different plant species. Among these, 165 were alien and exotic species that have naturalized, while the native species include 22 endemic species, 3 exclusive species, 11 protected species, and 21 rare species.
