Østre Angelstad is a historical farm located in the Holt area of Tvedestrand municipality in eastern Agder. The buildings on the farm are part of the Aust-Agder museum and archive, making it a significant site for those interested in local history and architecture.
The main house on Østre Angelstad farm stands as the best preserved example of Nedeneshus, a traditional Norwegian architectural style characterized by combined houses with verandas. This style was described by the renowned folklorist Eilert Sundt in the mid-19th century, adding to the historical significance of the site.
In the 19th century, Østre Angelstad was a central location with a stagecoach station on the Westland main road, which at the time passed through the farmyard. Stagecoaches would depart from here, heading westward to Brekka in Austre Moland, and eastward to Søndeled. This historical fact adds to the farm's significance as a transportation hub in the past.
